Minister Kenney issues statement celebrating Philippine Independence Day

 

Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following opinion on Philippine Independence Day celebrations:

"On June 12, 1898, the Philippine Islands the sovereignty of the people said the Philippines, after centuries of colonial domination. Although the Philippines would be completely independent of the next 48 years, people gathered that day for the public reading of the Declaration of Independence hear vowed their lives, their fortunes credit risk and their way of supporting his country to independence. this spirit of courage, dedication and perseverance were the spiritual and symbolic birth fiercely proud and independent Philippines.

"The spirit of pride and honor through creativity, generosity of spirit and activity of the Philippine people. First Filipinos have migrated to Canada in 1930 and since then, Filipino-Canadian community has contributed significantly to cultural material and economic prosperity in our country.

"The Philippines is currently the main source country of newcomers to Canada, and we are proud to be home to one of the largest Filipino community in the world.

"As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I would like all Canadians and Filipino are very happy to celebrate today
